Getting The Stars Right, Or The Star Predator

Something more cosmic, the Star Predator enemy from the Timescape expansion.

The figure is a walktapus from the Ral Partha Glorantha series for RuneQuest. An interesting, cosmologically convoluted setting with non-level based mechanics, which felt fresh in the 1988 edition.

This time I took some before-pics of the cephalopod previous to the new base and a fresh coat of paint.

An After-Midnight Snack Or The Gremlin

Found in the City expansion, the spirit enemy Gremlin.

I took the easy way and just decided to use this Marauder snotling the way I painted him 15-odd years ago. I still think he looks suitably mischievous!

She Looks Like Elvish, Again

I already did one Elf, but I really liked this Reaper sculpt by Werner Klocke, so I did another.

Here, as with the previous Swordsman, I painted the body and the swordarm separately. Then, when gluing, a missed drop of super glue melted her face away and I had to redo that. But other than that, she turned out ok.

Back In The Shadows Or The Thief

The Thief player character from the basic Game. From Reaper by Bobby Jackson.

At this time I had been reading Sidney Roundwood's blog. That guy produces some crazy awesome scenery!

Anyway, Sidney did some very nice tutorials about the way he paints models using just base, middle tone and highlight. So I wanted to try that, no washes, no drybrushing.

The Thief was the first one I did using this approach. I like the result. The only problem is that while he looked very good while painting under a bright light, in daylight details get lost because the highlights aren't quite light enough.

A Forest Or Some Trees Or The Satyr?

The Satyr player character from the Expansion Set.

Here I think I've gone a bit too far with the base. The Reaper mini by Tim Prow is getting lost next to the big tree.

I had also thought of adding several butterflies, but they ended up being so large I just used one and it's probably better that way.

A Midsummer Night's Sprite

The Sprite player character from the Dungeon expansion.

She is from Reaper by Bobby Jackson. The wings were a bit fiddly, falling off at first. I added a piece of wire that runs across her back and onto both wings. It holds the wings fast and doesn't even show too much.

I tried to make her look a bit ethereal, so the colors are light. The skin is mostly just a medium blue wash over a white base. A few light blue highlights, and I think she turned out ok.

The purple of the hands and feet was added while the blue was still wet and it blended quite nicely.

He Might Be Spartacus Or The Gladiator

The Gladiator player character from the Expansion set.

The nice mini is from Reaper by Bobby Jackson. He came with an optional head without a helmet, but the helmeted one looked more the part.

Here I was experimenting with non-metallic metals. I like the effect, except on the sword, which now looks more like a round club than a flat sword.
