Cannon Number One

More artillery. I originally meant to do two cannons. But there was I bit of a mix-up with my order from Wargames Foundry with them sending me a couple of wrong packs.

They were very friendly in setting the order straight and I'm extremely happy with their customer service. All in all, I ended up with an extra cannon, so I'll be doing three, and also some doubles of pirates that I've been chopping up, doing headswaps etc, because I don't want any exact doubles.

Anyway, first cannon done:

The gunners, Saomete, "Tiny" Timoteo (who ran away from home to see the world and now faces a constant threat of getting shot, stabbed or blow up) and Hjalmar "El Rubio" Grönbyxor:

Busy, getting ready to fire:

The Boarding Crew, Part Four - En Sjörövare

Another pirate for the boarding crew.

When able seaman Fridhmund Långstövel was widowed, he was faced with a difficult choice. He had a young daughter to care for, but no other skills but the trade of a mariner. Staying at home would mean selling the family home and eventual destitution.

Because his daughter is surprisingly independent and mature for her age, and also freakishly strong (able to lift a giraffe at the age of nine), herr Långstövel decided to go back to the high seas to seek the fortune to secure their future.

To keep his daughter's spirits up while she is fending off the local authorities set on taking possession of their family home, herr Långstövel has written her letters about his successful adventures, how he is now the king of an island, ruling over the natives and how he will soon return home with untold riches.

Sadly, in reality he barely escaped the said island with his life, losing his left leg to the cannibals' stew pot. Herr Långstövel now follows Captain João in the hope of securing enough treasure, that he can return to his daughter as a proud man.

Things on my mind while writing: Efraim and Pippi Långstrump

I'll leave you with a pic of the boarding crew thus far:

The Boarding Crew, Part Three

Three more pirates, able seamen Cleisthenes Deliverance (with a pistol-axe or an axe-pistol?) and Florencio Vasco, being of Foundry origins, and Gilius Stoutbeard, being a plastic pirate-dwarf from Reaper. So now the crew includes a dwarf. Why? Why not?

500 Points of Pirates, Almost

Ready for battle! Though these guys have nothing to do with the Warhammer world, I'm using the WHFB3e rules. My army list is as follows:

Characters
  • Captain Red João, level 20 human hero, cutlass and dagger, two pistols. 110 points.
  • Quartermaster Mimbah Odide, level 15 human hero and falconer, cutlass and dagger, two pistols. 88 points.
  • Bosun Jean-Baptiste Thibaud, level 5 human hero, forester and scout. Cutlass and dagger, arquebus and pistol. 41 points.
  • Total of 239 points of characters.
Rank and File

  • The Boarding Crew: Standard bearer Antônio Bandeira, musician Nicolau O Cérebro, able seamen Mankey, Ramirez and Tupac. Human shock elite +2, two hand weapons, two pistols. 84 points.
  • The Buccaneers: Standard bearer Jean-Guy Thibeault, musician Jean-Marie Thibault, midshipman Hector Sauvage, able seaman Jean-François "Petit-Jean" Thibeaud, seaman Jean-Yves Thibaut. Human missile elite +3, scouts and foresters. Arquebus, hand weapon. 112 points.
  • The Artillery: Swivel gun, gunners Benn and Gunn. Hand weapons. 49 points,
  • Total of 245 points of rank and file.
The Baggage Train

  • Pack master Van Muildier, Dr. Matteo Chi. Humans, hand weapons. 10 points.
  • Pack donkey Willy, 0 points.
  • Total of 10 points of baggage train.
Total: 494 points.

As you can see, I went a bit crazy with eliticizing the troops. But they are rough and tough veterans. It also means that I can get a decent sized army ready with less painting (I used to have a goblin army, jeez!).

I also gave them two pistols, which is not in the rules. I reckon they could, for example, if charged, both stand and fire AND use pistols in the following round of melee. In the WHFB3 rules, pistoliers can move and fire in the same turn, so it would take full turn to load both pistols.

All this would of course be talked over and agreed upon with my opponent before a game. I would be totally cool with playing them as basic humans with single guns. I just feel they'd have more flavour like this.

The Buccaneers

Tattoos a-plenty!

The buccaneers from left to right: Young Jean-Yves Thibaut, Jean-Guy Thibeault, Jean-Baptiste Thibaud, Jean-Marie Thibault, Jean-François "Petit-Jean" Thibeaud and Hector Sauvage.

Jean-Baptiste on the middle-left is the leader.

Jean-Marie is the musician and carries a conch made from greenstuff.

Petit-Jean carries a chest filled with precious spice for the buccaneer delicacy of roasted pig. He is a plastic Reaper mini, while the rest are from Foundry. He originally carried a saber.

Jean-Guy carries their colours. Great art needs no explanation, but this does: It's supposed to be the skull of a boar with an apple in it's mouth over a fork. My guess at the heraldic terms is: Sable, a boar's skull argent cabossed, maintaing an apple gules and a three-pronged fork argent fesswise.

The Bosun

The Bosun, Jean-Baptiste Thibaud, comes from a stock of fiercely independent settlers who took to the hard-to-reach mountains and jungles to escape influence of the kings of the old world. These buccaneers are skilled hunters and marksmen.

Jean-Baptiste hopes to make enough profit of this venture to retire in a life of luxury, but should that fail, he plans to set up an inn serving a dish of his jealously guarded recipe of spicy roast pig, "Porc du Boucanier, comme maman le préparait!"
