The Bosun, Jean-Baptiste Thibaud, comes from a stock of fiercely independent settlers who took to the hard-to-reach mountains and jungles to escape influence of the kings of the old world. These buccaneers are skilled hunters and marksmen.
Jean-Baptiste hopes to make enough profit of this venture to retire in a life of luxury, but should that fail, he plans to set up an inn serving a dish of his jealously guarded recipe of spicy roast pig, "Porc du Boucanier, comme maman le préparait!"
