The Goblin Fanatic

The Goblin Fanatic follower from the Dragons expansion.

Another fast and easy job, because I had this little fellow lying around half painted for years. His a snotling, I'm not sure whether from Citadel or Marauder.

I also have some Citadel night goblin fanatics, but they felt too massive compared to the other goblins I've used so far.

The Third Hobgoblin

Talisman contains three hobgoblins, two enemies from the basic game and the player character from the Talisman Expansion Set. This guy is the third one.

I have four of these 1984 Citadel hobgoblins by Aly Morrison. I'll get around to painting the fourth some day, even though I now have enough for the Project.

The Unicorn

Next up, the secret of the unicorn.

The Unicorn follower from the basic game is nice to have around, a +1 to both strenght and craft and the added benefit of the mental image of your troll riding around the countryside on an unicorn.

Mine is a plastic mini from Reaper by Sandra Garrity. The horn came bent, and by heating it, I was able to straighten it. But with time the horn retook it's curved shape. Damn.

More Machine Than A Man, Or The Cyborg

Though he might argue that 86.5% is still human. The Cyborg player character from Timescape is one of the more powerful characters in the game. A permanent 4+ save and the ability to fight a second round of combat after winning the first with his starting strenght of 5 means he can often gain a good headstart in early game.

My machine man is from Reaper by Bob Ridolfi. I like the result, especially the pale skin.

Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai

Adding a bit of oriental flair with the Samurai player character from the Adventure expansion.

An Interregional Man Of Mystery, Or The Spy

The Spy player character from the Dungeon expansion.

The mini is another Reaper by Patrick Keith. With the base, the idea was that he is standing on a road with the green representing the side of the road. But the wide cape means, that from most angles you only see the green or the brown, not both. I should have painted the divide of colours at a right angle to the way it is running now.

Beware The Deadly, Flashing Blade, Or The Swashbuckler

With the Swashbuckler player character from the Dungeon expansion, I kept thinking of Errol Flynn's 1940 film, the Sea Hawk. Which, of course, is black and white, so no help for the colours from there.

From Reaper by Derek Schubert.

I had kept going with the quick black undercoat - dark base - medium tone - highlight method. I'd been taking the speed and the amount of black showing further and further, and with this one I think I took the method too far. He just looks dirty to me. But you won't know the limits of your tools and styles if you never cross those limits.

I've also noticed that there is a bit of variety in size between minis even from the same producer. Here are two Reaper minis, the Swashbuckler and the Rogue from my previous post.

The basing adds to the difference in height. The Swashbuckler has a tab and a slotta base, while the Rogue has an integral cast base and I've then placed him on a 25 mm square base for unity.

But still, even without the base, the Swashbuckler measures 32 mm, while the Rogue stands at 36 mm. Not really a problem for me, but still annoying.

Going Rogue

The Rogue player character from the Talisman Expansion Set is kind of odd. The artwork makes him seems like some petty criminal involved in a barfight, but his special abilities involve stealing spells from other players. Grand theft hex? I went with the "mugging someone in the back alley" image.

The mini is from Reaper by Matt Gubser.
